This site is the repository of research material for my first novel Fame and Infamy set in 1870s Paris. Many of the articles are excerpts from texts written in the 19th century. Wherever I can, I will include my sources and recommend reading material. I hope you will enjoy the offerings of this blog. If you want to contact me, write to iva.polansky at yahoo dot com.
Thanks for mentioning me in your ‘Blogroll’ – will definitely be reading your posts!

I wish I’d found your blog before I started writing about 19th century Paris. I did oodles of research for posts related to my own novel, and here you’ve gathered more than I could have hoped for. Did you find anything particularly fascinating? I tried hard not to be Victor Hugo, aiming more for a Dumas ‘voice’. I need to read more Zola, too, I think…
Great blog!

Thanks for your blog! I’m working on making a game set in second empire france and the pictures in your blog gave me some great reference art from that time.

Hi Eric(?)
I had no idea there were games like that. When you are done, let me know because I’d like to see the result. Also do ask questions if you need to.
